Neighborhood names are used and referred to by everyone, but you cannot even find them on a map. So, where do neighborhood names come from? Historically, neighborhood names are taken from the subdivision names or plat names (a plat name being the name assigned when the application to subdivide a parcel of land into lots and streets is made). Some plat names are partial legal descriptions and are not easily used as neighborhood names. Some neighborhood names are taken from the most popular or established street name in that area, while other neighborhood names come from a large development name.

The following list of the more commonly recognized neighborhoods is taken from the almost 30,000 plat names recorded with Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade County.
